Kent Wedding Photographer

Simon Hawkins

I am a documentary photographer, based in Kent, the beautiful garden of England. Specialising in wedding, day in the life and intimate portrait photography my sole purpose is to provide you with a bespoke, timeless and beautiful collection of images from my time with you. I am an internationally published photographer and my work can be seen in numerous magazines such as Wedding Ideas, Late Tackle and Country Roads (USA). In 2016, I was short listed for wedding photographer of the year by the Kent Wedding Awards. To see links to all this work and to read more about me and why I love being a photographer head on over to the MY STORY page.

My photography style, although developed over the years, started with a love for street photography in London. The world’s greatest city provided me with a backdrop to take images of real life. I was and continue to be intrigued by the city, the people and the world around me. Every place and person has a different story to tell, and photographing the emotion and reaction to real life situations is what matters to me as a documentary photographer. You should be able to look at a photograph and feel it. The images that really work are the ones that evoke reaction from the viewer. These are the ones that will be fondly looked back upon for years to come because they triggered an emotion or memory. Documentary or photojournalism style photography is the only way to capture the raw emotion and tell a story of the day. You can click here to view my WEDDING PORTFOLIO page to see how my street photography style has influenced my wedding photography.

I absolutely practice what I preach and the photo above of my beautiful face is part of a story too, and completely un-posed. The photograph was taken by five year old Ronnie, during a Day in the Life family shoot. It has to be said my smile was more me looking anxious rather than euphoric as Ronnie, not only five years old, was also sat six foot in the air on a tree stump with my very expensive camera in his hands. You can read and watch the photofilm about the rest of my day with Ronnie and his family in Maidstone, Kent, over on my BLOG as well keep up to date with all my other work.

A photofilm is the perfect narrative for my clients to view and share the story of their day with the world. The impact of an emotional event such as wedding, combined with my documentary photography and careful choice of music can be overwhelming. My brides (and some grooms) cry every time guaranteed. I’ve even been told of people crying who had no connection to the wedding what so ever after watching one. You can’t get a bigger compliment than that. Don’t just take my word for it though. Take a look at Hannah and Matt’s vintage seaside wedding on the photofilm below and get in touch if you would like to see more or BOOK ME for your wedding.

What My Clients Say

I pride myself on not only providing a great product but also a great service. Its intrinsically ingrained within my being that my wedding couples, families, portrait and commercial clients are completely happy with the whole experience from start to finish. Molly and Jordan were married at Cooling Castle Barn in Kent, in 2016, and here is a very small snippet of what they had to say about me, their experience and their wedding photographs.

When I got home I watched the photofilm again and it made me cry, actually following the wedding blues I watched it every day for at least a week and every day it made me cry with happiness (and I never cry). The photos and photofilm enabled us to relive our special day and that’s all thanks to Simon!
