My Story by Simon Hawkins
I am a photographer of life; I take pictures of people.
When I was a touch younger I wanted to be a sports journalist, or own a bar on the beach in Jamaica, both of which were fallback options if my football or golf career didn’t take off, I am still awaiting the call from Arsenal and my golf clubs are covered in cobwebs in the depths of my garage.
They were great dreams, but these days I’m living a new dream. Along with Katie, my beautiful wife, Felicity my three-year-old (going on 14) daughter and little white dog, I live in the beautiful Kent countryside. My perspective on life has changed somewhat over the years. I no longer have the need to take over the world, wear sharp suits and drive a Porsche 911 (although when I win the lottery that’s the first car I’m buying). All I need now is for my daughter to grow up happy and healthy, for Katie to continue to succeed in her amazing bridal hair and make up business, PRETTY PLEASE BY KATIE, and for me to be able to take some unique snaps of people which delight them into writing me a lovely TESTIMONIAL, or send me a New York cheesecake, either or, both things make me happy.
I’ve never been one to accept the “ordinary” in life; I like to do things my way. My very first wedding came about because someone saw my Instagram account. Initially I said no, because I wasn’t a wedding photographer and I didn’t want to be. My perception at the time was taking wedding photographs was as boring and as far from cool as I could get.
Then a light came on in my tiny brain and I thought to myself, do it, but do it in a way that you like to shoot, street style. Turns out this is a genre in itself and its called documentary wedding photography…who knew?!
So that’s me, and how I came to be where I am today. Go ahead and take a look at my life in the photofilms below, which are immensely personal, but show you who I am and what I live for. To take a look at some of the amazing weddings I have been privileged to photograph just click here to see my WEDDING PORTFOLIO and if after all that you like what you see please don’t hesitate to GET IN TOUCH.
Before you leave I just wanted to share this with you. In 2015, I became accredited by prestigious The Royal Photographic Society and they had this to say about my images:
“This photographer sees things others don’t and they have a very individual style”
…well as my Grandad used to say “Cor bugger”.
